To begin the story

As a reference librarian, I spend an inordinate amount of time searching the web, analysing the web, playing around on the web and generally staying connected. I twitter, use Facebook and help write content for my library's web site. But, while I have always kept a personal journal, I have never kept an online professional blog.
My goal for this blog is to reflect on the ways in which I as a librarian can respond to the forces at play in the economy, society, and technology.
I believe that free and transparent access to information lies at the heart of my profession and at the heart of democracy.
I want to share information and whenever possible put it into a context that makes sense for me.
I want to be challenged on my assumptions.
I want to think out loud.

If anyone reads my entries and responds with their own, concerns, questions or comments. Wonderful. If no one ever does, at least I will have the experience of creating a blog and will acquire hands on experience to share with others about the process.
